Does Gareth Southgate to Manchester United actually make sense?
Welcome to The Athletic FC's RUclips channel, where best-in-class journalism meets video.
After a historically poor season and with new leadership in charge, many fans might be wondering if Erik ten Hag’s time has come to an end.
If so, one of the interesting names that has emerged in this hypothetical scenario is England’s very own Gareth Southgate.
Famous for turning a toxic England team into a lovable bunch and reaching the Euro 2020 Final, is Southgate the right man for a new era at Manchester United?

Просмотров 184 тыс.День назад
Welcome to The Athletic FC's RUclips channel, where best-in-class journalism meets video. This season we’ve seen a historic low of managers being sacked from the Premier League and also Bayern Munich’s extraordinary (and still ongoing) manager search. Why aren’t managers being fired mid-season anymore? And why is it so hard to find a manager for an elite club? Joe Devine, JJ Bull and Jon Macken...

Welcome to The Athletic FC's RUclips channel, where best-in-class journalism meets video. Arne Slot has been all but confirmed as Jurgen Klopp’s successor at Liverpool. But why did Liverpool choose Slot? How does his Feyenoord side play? What kinds of problems will he inherit at Liverpool? Joe Devine, JJ Bull and Jon Mackenzie are joined by Reuben Pinder and Alex Barker to figure out why Liverp...

Also, Luton, Burnley and Sheffield Utd definitely could have burned through more money buying better players last summer. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Luton for example seemed to already know it was only going to be a one-season experience before getting the parachute payments for next season in the Championship. Quite a good business model actually - they're far richer now than they were a year ago.
Forest without the asterisk would be 10 points clear of Luton and Everton would be 11th. The bottom three can’t really complain at that. If they do, they can blame the prem for its top 6 centric financial rules.
All I'm hearing is that Southgate should come in as HR & PR manager not on the field 😂
Let's not mention the revolutionary 1 1 5
Why have they made John start shouting. Let him present in the way that suits him best.
Which wins league cup* and European Title*
It's almost like having hundreds of millions of pounds more than the other 19 teams in your division makes winning easy
League Title. Singular.
League titles and European cups? No. 1 of each.

We’re turning into a farmers league
The difference is Ferguson was up against Wenger and Mourinho to of the greatest managers in that era Pep is obviously miles ahead of Klopp and now Arteta he probably will win five in a row and then call it a day in the premiership it’s not a challenge to him especially now it’s Arteta who will never beat Pep over a course of a season he does not know how to beat the best once Pep leaves he might have a chance but will be give in a row next year because there is no one of the level of manager to challenge Pep in the premiership
For his first full 3 or 4 seasons, Klopp dropped out of the domestic cups early. That's how we won the Champions League and the Premier League. I hope Arne does the same. Fixture congestion is deadly
Completely ignore the fact that they had four points deducted would mean they would be on 36 points. Then there is all the dodgy decisions against them 1. v Manchester United, fake penalty. 2. v Wolves, red card?????? 3. v Bournemouth, red card??? 4. v Liverpool, non seen foul 5. v Everton, 3 Penalties?????? If they had got points from a fair VAR, they would have got to 40 points. I understand journalism is being journalism, but is there any points where journalists are actually honest?
Nobody is Pep
How can england be better at winning tournaments when they have won nothing?
its actually gotten easier in my opinion.weak are weaker
1. They didn’t have infinite money That’s the list….
Slot is closer to Ange Postecoglou than Guardiola.
115 reasons he lost and could have won more
Trouble is we're just NOT winning the Ball back quickly, especially in the midfield because we lack Midfield ball winners putting too much pressure on our centre backs and full backs. Plus porro is more of a winger than a defender/ full back
1 1 5
How does this channel, which claims to be an objective voice, just outright ignore the charges against this team?? It’s a MASSIVE asterisk to all of their success. Give any top club that kind of financial advantage and they’d be successful.
Which is exactly what used to happen so
Credits to: 115 charges

Good on Spurs. Hope the investment pays off.
Just say 115 and move on
Three reasons, money, money and money
For Villa to go from Championship to Champions league we spent a shed load of cash, had a lot of luck (a disallowed goal, the covid break etc) and three managers to address different problems at different times. 1. Bruce to steady the ship and sort out the culture. 2. Smith to get us promoted and stay up (just) 3. Emery to get us playing to a higher level Southgate could be Man Utd's Bruce.
115
115 means nobody cares, they won the treble and nobody cared, it wasn’t even news after 48 hours. The stands are half empty after title lifts and the bus parades are dead. Forever cheats.
"Well there we go." Good way to end it. I enjoy the lack of ceremony and tedious bullshit.
I don’t know if “plenty” of English teams have won 3 in a row: Huddersfield did it in the 1920s; Arsenal did it in the 1930s; Liverpool did it in the 1980s; Man Utd did it in 99-01; Man Utd did it in 07-09; Man City have done it in the 2020s. That’s only 5 clubs in 140 years.😄 Even winning back-to-back league titles has been pretty rare in my lifetime (since 1980): only Liverpool, Man Utd, Chelsea and Man City have done that. To be fair to Man City, I think they have about 10 players who’ve been in all four squads, so when they do buy, they tend to buy well and for the long term. They’ve lost some big players in those four seasons too: Aguero, Fernandinho, Sterling, Cancelo, Gundogan & Mahrez were all amazing for them. Having said all that, it’s easy to underestimate just how dominant Man Utd were from 1993 to 2001: they won 7 out of 9 titles and only lost the other two by a point. They also followed up their treble season by winning the league by 18 points in 99/00.
Beautiful man you got on that shirt. I now have the luck to have him on my national team after admiring for so long from afar ☺️
just give him a non-elite team. he has only coached super teams so far. pretty sure even he cant save man utd this season
The real #1 reason is because Man City have endless oil money and 115 counts of cheating
115
If you want to know weather you are a good manager or not you have to take a risk.. From bad team to a good team.. Or from a good team to a bad team. Or from poor team to rich team.. And another way round. Look at zinadin Zidan he considered a poor manager because he don't dare to come for a poor team. He just wants an instant glory.. He want to manage a good financial team
I think of 115 ways their recruitment is excelling
cry lol
The reason arsenal never win 4 title in a row because their manager dies
cry more cnt
Man City have depth which is unmatched that no matter the injury they still produce a very strong squad
maybe related to the 115 charges?
jurgen won trophies pep won the lottery
Sir Alex was one win away from winning 6 in a row
what do you mean?
Im guessing they won 3 in a row, then lost the 4th by ~3 points. Then won another 2 in a row
@@Alez94 he lost the league in 97/98 by one point so actually one goal turning a loss to a draw would’ve won the league on GD
@@johanpi4277 thanks
and Pep was one away from winning 7 in a row
Just 3 reasons? I can think of 115
Innocent until proven guilty
115 reasons to cry? You may continue
@@Bluemoon933 so you’ll accept the outcome and the subsequent punishment?
@@LukeD-Always If we are guilty then yes. Will you accept if we are found innocent?
@@joyantoshatadal5065 we shall see who’s crying in the end, but I suspect you’ll be back in your chelsea shirt by the time the dust settles 😂
I have another 115 reasons for why it's happened. For more info google man city 115
👍
I know there’s realistically no way this is ever implemented into football, but it’s still a shame there’s not even a salary cap to try to give smaller market teams a chance.
I watch your channel with pleasure. Your videos are always so exciting and high quality.🏝🗽🏖
